In Ohio, a police officer is being hailed a hero for how he restrained and talked down the alleged armed robber that threatened to kill himself.
The suspect, 20 year old Rashawn Harper was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated menacing and other charges.
The police officer’s in question name has not been revealed, but he pacified Harper by engaging in conversation with him and not resorting to violence even if he was armed and fired his gun to an eye witness.
On Saturday afternoon the police officers were responding to a robbery report at a store in Jackson Township, when a 51 year old woman followed the robber in her car after he drove away and she told his whereabouts to the police.
When Harper found out that the woman is following him he opened fire on her car.
According to News 5 Cleveland, the witness screamed “He’s shooting at me! He’s got a gun!”
Afterwards, Hunter left the car and ran off to a golf course where he sat on a bench with a gun to his head.
The officer approached Harper and did not use force. Another officer explained that his colleague told the Harper “We can help you, dude. We’re not going to hurt you. I promise you we are not going to hurt you. Put it down,“
Harper then explained to the officer that he has stopped taking the medication for his mental disorder and the officer promised him a therapist.
“You toss that gun out of there. I put mine away, and I’ll come talk to you. I promise you. We can help you. It’s not the way,” he said to Harper.
And when Harper revealed his age to the officer, he continued “Come on, bud, you have to talk to me. Dude, you’re 20. You’re still so young. Let’s go, dude, we don’t want to do this. Just put it (the gun) down, bud. We don’t want to do it. You don’t want to do it. You’re 20,”
Harper then put down his gun and the officer handcuffed him while asking him why he did the robbery when he saw that Harper showed remorse when he said he made terrible decisions.
