During the protests at the U.S Capitol that were pro-Trump, four people died.
After violent Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol in attempts to stop the count of the electoral votes. A shooting by the police occurred.
Metropolitan Police Department reported on Wednesday night that a woman was shot inside and others died due to medical emergencies.
Robert Contee, the Metropolitan Police Chief reported that a woman was shot by a Capitol Police Officer after attempting to enter the house chamber by breaching the Capitol.
After being shot, she was transported to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead later in the evening.
The identity of the woman was not yet released, but they said it was a civilian and did not belong to any law enforcement agencies.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s internal affairs unit is investigating the shooting.
Contee also added that there were two other recorded deaths around the Capitol grounds, the reason of which he states as “separate medical emergencies” Their identities were not addressed either.
During the count, after only two states had been completed, the Capitol Complex was locked down and the lawmakers were to be evacuated due to the protest.
Troops were deployed in attempt to stop the violence, even the National Guard.
During the rally at least 14 members of the MPD were injured including an officer that was dragged.
After many hours of the breach, it was announced that the Capitol was secure. As of Wednesday evening, 52 people have been arrested according to the MPD. The vote count was resumed later the evening.
