Timothée Chalamet will now be forever known as Edgar Scissorhands.
When Tim Burton’s fantasy film opened in theaters back in December of 1990, Chalamet was not even born yet.
And now, the 25 year old actor will join the Edward Scissorhands star Winona Ryder for the sequel that premiered on the Super Bowl LV.
In the original film, a young Johnny Depp played the young gifted/cursed man with scissors on his hands that falls in love with Kim Boggs during his suburban time.
Now, Edgar carries on the Scissorhands name with the emo ennui and Goth fashion.
All the fashions were big on the project appeal to Chalamet, who told Vogue that he worked closely with Melissa DesRosiers, who is the costume designer in order to create the look of Edgar.
“[We wanted] to create a character that could feel authentic to the austere expressionism of the original but with modern motifs. We also use the iconic moon crescent from Johnny’s original belt buckle costume as a sort of shoulder strap on Edgar’s costume as a small call back to the past.” – he explained.
In the ad, we didn’t get to see Edgar getting his father-son moment with Edward, but Chalamet gushed over his on screen mom Wynona Ryder.
“It was a reminder of the ‘America’s Sweetheart’ role Winona occupied in many American hearts and minds in the ’90s. And she had some tidbits that were honestly creatively very helpful, although that will stay between her and me.” – he said.
And twitter was there for his role. People supported him with positive messages.
Users also said that there couldn’t be a better casting for Edgar.
