Seeing as the Sunday’s Super Bowl LV was held in a two-thirds-empty venue due to the COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. And unlike many stars, which would have opted for a more scaled back or even virtual for this year, The Weeknd went all out.

He brought a hydraulic, live vocals, a back to the future sports car, a funhouse mirror, a neon Vegas cityscape, a carnival maze, a choir entirely made of LED-eyed Mr. Robots, a skyful of pyro, a masked Jabbawockeezian army of Rhythm Nation-formation mummy dancers, and a string section.

All this hard work paid off, since the star spent $7 million of his own investment money to Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.

The self described cinematic experience was one of the most successful halftime shows in recent history, in the top list with last year’s Jennifer Lopez and Shakira spectacle and 2017’s Lady Gaga tour de force.

The Weeknd did not have any special guests to join him on the field and not even Daft Punk. A scenario that caused “Daft Punk” to trend on Twitter.

As fans were hoping that the duo would show up during the “Starboy” or “I Feel It Coming” . But, just like Gaga in 2017, The Weeknd in 2021 did not need any cameos.

Seeing as the Grammy Awards ceremony is coming really soon (next month) the organizers must be really feeling sorry after The Weeknds performance.

Last year, the Weeknd was shockingly snubbed by the Recording Academy even though he had one of the biggest albums of 2020.

We have learned that allegedly the Academy made an ultimatum to The Weeknd which stated that he would need to chose to perform either at the Grammys or the Super Bowl.

And if that is the case, it was very clear that he made the Super Bowl LV choice, AND that he made the right one as well.

The Super Bowl LV game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs was on Sunday, the 7th of February, 2021 at the Tampa Raymond James Stadium.

During the halftime show, well, spectacle not show, The Weeknd performed these songs:

“Call Out My Name” (choir intro)

“The Hills”

“Can’t Feel My Face”

“I Feel It Coming”

“Save Your Tears”

“Earned It”

“House of Balloons”

“Blinding Lights”
